Once apon a time, in a land where people cared about others, someone would have a least pumped it out for him. it is to bad things are not like that now. now we look and point , walk away and do nothing.

Unfortunately it all falls down to liability. Picture some other idiot taking pictures of you tampering with said boat and then posting them on some facebook page next thing you know you were the last one seen touching it cops arrest you as culprit. On top of that I have helped several people in the past and getting even thanked for it is a crap shoot. Unless you have been talking to the person for a while and can somewhat judge his character I would probably be walking away too.

Where i live that boat would probably not sunk unless it was in the middle of the night.

well thank you for that comment. it is that sort of mentality I,m talking about. if there is nothing it for ME well.....

And one of the reasons why I don't bother with winter moorage. Pull the boat each year around the 20th of October. Between winter storms and thieves taking advantage of fewer eyes around the docks I sleep better with the boat on the trailer in the driveway.

Whats you deal? It is not everyone's responsibility to make sure the bilge pumps are working in a boat. That is the owner's responsibility. I know the marina well I am sure people as well as guys at marina did not stand around and laugh and not help.... It probably happened overnight. It is warning for everyone top make sure bilge pumps are working and maybe to check there boat at Cheanuh. Good grief why care so much your not even at this marina or even know the weather we had last few days? I am not surprised with heavy rain we had.

One things for sure a sloping canvas might have prevented that if it was just from rain...

You would think at least one electric bilge pump would be in order.
2 would be better when mooring over the winter.

There's a 28-30 ft cruiser sitting aground on the beach in Naramata that got dragged its buoy moorage in a big blow on monday of the thanksgiving weekend and no one has done anything. Obviously absentee owner but no idea if anyone has notified them. It's sitting upright and doesn't appear to be in any great danger, but still...

Yah I would say two it minimum, and make sure the boat was under cover and snapped in with canvas on back... Most boats can have a sloping canvas put on.

I,m just saying we as a society have changed. we have become more self centered and less community minded, and to me it looks bad on us. I,m not on your case, I,m just sayin'

Doug....I do kind of have to agree with a few others, while also agreeing with you. Who is to say that these pics were not snapped just prior to people taking action? Sure....we all hope that people would spring into action but there are so many arses in this world who DON'T.....but also who are ungrateful to those that DO.

Also.....getting that boat afloat is not just a simple "pump out". I don't know how exactly you would get that afloat again given the predicament of having it "hanging off the dock on it's side, but where you intend to put a pump on a wide open boat to float it again would be my question? Does it require cutting part of the hull? Do you need a diver involved underwater? Airbags to 'right' it and then pump out? Cut it loose, tow to shore where it would be easier to work with? It is FAR from a one man job and if you're the sole guy working in the marina (if it was me), I would be calling the owner right away.

You could also make the argument that in this day and age "if" individuals did spring into action which may involve towing it up on a ramp or something to that effect the owner is going to be some kind of pissed. Believe me...I am among the first to put a plan into action but I have experienced and know others who when trying to do "good" in this day and age wind up getting "sh*t on". Add to that "if" for example you had to call in anyone extra who is going to be billing....and you're not the owner you could also be setting yourself up.

That's why self bailing is best :) No finicky bilge pumps - No worries!!!

Done that at the marina before saw our old boat there, owner we sold it to didn't have the bilge pump even on auto, was sitting super low in the water, so jumped in pumped it out for them. If someone has a problem just know that you are doing the right thing, who cares what people think!

of course we have no idea how fast or slow it sank, or who saw it, or what happened after. I am saying that things that letting things get to that point and no one has done anything to help makes us as a whole look like crap as people. now having said that yes maybe it did happen over night and yes the owner is to blame but to many things happen everyday that people ignore, rather than help. and I,m not saying we all are like that. maybe "you" are not, but it seems we are more and more all about the "ME" than we ever were before.
