Going To Dark Side

After careful consideration I am going to look long term 2 year plan at an offshore aluminum as next boat..I am keeping my malibu as is for inshore/family trips..The plan is to move around more and go to destinations throughout summer... And to be as comfortable and safe as possible.

A friend of mine he knows who he is has tainted me....LOL

I know we start these all the time but what are you likes/dislikes for some of the aluminum boats...I am looking bigger 24-26 ft... If its just a shell to start off I am good with that as I can build it way I want.

Here is my first input: I like alu but dislike the price of them! This will probably always be the biggest hurdle between me and an alu boat of mine.

Here is a link to one of our boats we built with Aegir Boats in Black Creek. Basically they built the bare hull and I did the outfitting and interior work. Since the deck is self bailing, the cab configuration can be changed fairly easy. Saved myself a whack of money by doing the finishing myself. We use them as guide boats, so we didn't install any bunks, fresh water systems, or stove/heat etc. Easy to tow, under the 10'6" rule so no pilot car needed, runs fine with 2x115's, easy to keep clean, and reasonable with fuel usage for that sized boat. Good luck in your search:)

That Cope designed Kingfisher 33 is sick!!! I wish they used the Cope designed hull for all sizes of their Kingfisher offshore boats - somehow I don't see a $300,000+ boat in my future but in a 26 or 28 foot configuration would be sweet!

Glad to be of help :p:D. I would look for a good deal on a used one or find find a shell and do what Goatram did with the Miss Eliza. I know of a guy who can draw things up and might know a shop that could help out with the welding;).

Couple months ago, someone posted a link to government auction of a diesel on triple axel trailer. Was very well priced. I think was near Terrace.

hey SpringVelocity, seeing that you know a welder... check these out

Here is a direct link to the actual designer.

The site posted is a guy that does cutting of the kit's. He has built a few Specmar hull's as well. He must have an arrangement with Specmar because the prices are the same. Seems like good pricing for the "flat pack" (cut pieces). I have an idea what freight is but don't know the logistics with duty etc. to get the kit across the border. Good information regardless. More research....
