Fishing Horse Lake

Im taking the family up to horse lake on august long weekend, and staying in 1 of cariboo bonanza resorts cabin. This will be the first time i will be fishing there. I will be taking my 14ft G3 and 9.9hp. I will be trolling most of the time. I will have a scotty downrigger with 8lb canon ball.

Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on what might work there for lures and or bait.

never fished there in the summer but spring can be red hot using chronys. A buddy does well in the summer on Horse using a bobber and worm. no lie. we usually fish the drop off around the sunken island in the middle. or you can go to the far east side there is another sunken island.

Chironomids work great there all year. But if you are trolling, black leeches on a full sink or a small black with sparkles kwikfish down deep.

Used to be some big Kokanee in their but that was years ago...standard setup worked

We got some big Kokanee mid July 2.5 to 4 pounds! no lake trout though and a few rainbows.
