Fishing Cambell River

I am in a derby in Cambell River on Sunday and I am hoping for a report on how the fishing has been lately there. I am from Nanaimo and it is very slow here. I am hoping for a little more action than seems to be available here.

If you are able to be lucky enough to boat one without a seal scooping it, fishing has picked up a bit lately. What derby is this?? Have I been too busy to notice?

Fishing has really been picking up lately. cape mudge, the hump, both producing fish, but the real hot area has been north past browns bay.ripple point, greensea bay, hall point, thurston, denam bay(sonora) have been producing some awesome fishing. i was up at denam bay a few days ago with my buddy, we got our limit by noon(15-25 lbs), anchovies at 120 feet behind flasher. we saw a lot of fish get caught, biggest confirmed was 37 lbs.apparently the vast majority of the fish caught that day were on hoochies, jack smith special especialy.
Good luck, let us know how u made out.

Thanks for all the info guys. It is a GM Technician Derby. You have to win a spot in this derby. It is all the top techs from GM dealerships on the island. It is out of Dolphins Resort. I will report how it went on Monday.

I've had some luck with the Jack Smith Specials but only up at Greensea and farther around. Dolphins have some good guys so listen to them as they may not want to run you that far up, if you're using their guides. Anchovies and green Coyotes around CR.

Well-It was a little disapointing. 40 guys-all with guides and only 4 fish arriving back at the dock in 4 hours fishing. The biggest was only 21 lbs. Our guide worked pretty hard but there just wasn't much action. We tried The Lighthouse, The Hump and the bay at the mill. The tide was running pretty good but we were fishing between tides and there were no slacks in the time allotted-poor planning by the organizers I guess.
And no-no ZO6 for a prize. Maybe next year.Oh well,in 1.5 weeks I'll be fishing Kyuquat. I'm sure I'll have better luck there.

Malibuguy...It's been a rough start all right. I was up in Nootka two days ago and couldn't keep the Coho's off and brought in a couple nice Chinooks. and back yesterday up to Chatham Point and only got one smiley. At least the west coast is producing. Sorry to hear about your adventure. Good luck in Kyuquot..you should do ok
