Charlottetown City Police were called to the scene after employees arrived at work Monday morning to find the office of one Shea's employees in Charlottetown had been broken into, sources tell The Guardian.

Sources say the office was "cleaned out" and that the employee's computer was one of the items stolen.

The culprits may have gained access to the fourth floor office by breaking a window adjacent to the top floor of the Pownal Street Parkade. The parkade's rooftop is located next to the broken window.

No one is believed to have been hurt in the incident.

Police have not yet released any official details.

Shea’s office is located in the BDC Place building on Kent Street in Charlottetown. The parkade is behind Shea’s office building.

Break-in at MP’s office in city under investigation
TERESA WRIGHT
The Guardian

Two computers were stolen from the Charlottetown office of federal Fisheries and Oceans Minister Gail Shea during a break-in over the weekend.
Charlottetown City Police were called to the scene Monday morning after employees arrived at work to find the office of one of Shea’s Charlottetown employees had been broken into. A computer monitor, a computer tower and a laptop belonging to the employee were stolen.
“As far as we know there was no sensitive information on the computer that would affect the federal minister in any way,” said Charlottetown police Const. Gordie McMurrer.
“It had no information that we know of concerning her or her work or anything.”
Entry to the fourth floor office was gained by forced entry through a window that faces the top floor of the Queen Street Parkade. The parkade’s rooftop is located next to the broken window. Shea’s Charlottetown office is located in the BDC Place building on Kent Street. The parkade is behind Shea’s office building.
“Apparently someone went to a lot of trouble to crawl over there and through the window,” McMurrer said.
Because of the size and number of items stolen, police believe it was likely one or two people who committed this crime.
They do not believe at this time the computers were taken in an attempt to steal information privy to the minister.
“I’d say they were just looking for quick valuables that they could carry out, since that’s all they took,” McMurrer said.
“That’s easy stuff to take, sell and get rid of.”
No one was in the office at the time of the incident. It happened sometime over the weekend. Employees left the office at around 6 p.m. Friday evening and arrived at work on Monday to find the office broken into and the computers gone.
The minister’s office is a secure one, complete with video surveillance and an intercom system at the door, as well as an alarm system for the windows. But that alarm did not sound.
There’s a question of whether those alarms were turned on.
“It may not have been activated simply just by somebody forgetting to do that in a rush to get out on a Friday afternoon,” McMurrer said.
City police is still investigating the inicident.
“It’s just like any other break-and-enter, we’ll investigate it and until we find out futher information on the computer, either where it is or if somebody pops up on our radar, that’ll be it,” McMurrer said. “But it has nothing to do really with the minister or her information or anything like that. It’s just that fact that it’s (Shea’s)?office that makes it newsworthy, I guess.”
