Great pictures, beautiful scenery.
Nice looking reels, can someone tell me the benefits of those reels over a level wind? I don't think they are very common on the great lakes. Just wondering.

It takes some modicum level of skill to successfully play and boat a large salmon on a single action reel as those shown because you have a direct connection to the fish. Screw up and you lose.....sometimes painfully too. LOL
On a level wind type reel you don't have that and it literally takes zero skill to successfully play and boat a large salmon. In fact, one of the reasons some guides prefer those types of reel is so they can have beginner clients boat fish. You can literally just keep reeling with a level wind until the fish finally comes in.

Can't do that with a centrepin/single-action type reel.

That's about the basic differences IMHO.

Lots more fun with a single-action though.

Take care.

Wheres that island FA????and those damn jelly fish got to hate it when it slams into your line there was so many of those in sooke this year it was like driving thru a mine field.

Thanks Dave,
Makes sense, gives the fish more of a chance.
Sounds like some sore fingers until you get used to them though.

Here's a couple of pic's from this year............
