Electric over hydraulic brakes systems

I'm needing to do some brake maintenance on the trailer under my 24' cruiser and am looking at options. Currently I have electric brakes. I routinely tow over the Rocky Mountains and surge brakes SUCK in that terrain so they aren't in the running here. In a perfect world I'd like to have hydraulic disc brakes without a surge activator. The answer seems to be electric over hydraulic. I've found two such systems: A "Dexter" unit from Eastern Marine:
http://shop.easternmarine.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=catalog.catalog&... and "Sens-a-Brake" made in New Zealand: http://www.sensabrake.com/page.cfm?id=31&product_id=23 . In comparing these two products the first difference I see is price ($599 + $60 for the break-away) vs: $875. The next is how each supplies hydraulic pressure. The Dexter uses an electrically driven hydraulic pump, the Sens-a-brake uses compressed air, contains an electrically driven compressor, and requires no brake-away. My only thoughts are that the air system is probably faster and more responsive. Any of you out there have any thoughts or experiences?
