i am planing on buying a new rod for driftfishing for steelhead and also for fishing spoons and blades also for steelhead and coho. im not looking on spending any more than $200 on a rod, im pretty sure i want it to be a 10'6 medium action. im kind of thinking of buying a fenwick hmx 10'6 m action, or a shimano convergance 10'6 m action.
im personaly leaning towards the fenwick, but if anybody has any info that could lead me to making a decission would be great.
Thanks!

Steelheadman.

you cant really go wrong with fenwicks. Ive had an 11' hmx thats 4 or 5 years old now and its still a great rod. I also have a 10'6'' shimano convergence that i use for my spare every once in a while. Its a good rod for a decent price but i still like the fenwick more. Plus ive had problems with past shimano baitcasting rods with the centers of the guides falling out.

yea i noticed that the fenwicks dont have the porcilyn/plasting lops inside the line guides, the fenwick just has a harm metal or somethin inside, which could be good probably doesnt get nicked very easily. im also going to pick up a shimano calcutta 400 seems like a nice reel! now the next question what good experiances have you guys had with certain baitcasters?
Thanks!

400's too big of real for the STAMP coho, steelhead fishery!!! Go with the 250, much better reel for the Island riv's. The 400's a big water reel...ie Thompson, Fraser. For tossing blades/spoons and light terminal that you would be using on the Stamp/Sproat or any other system around Port the only way to go is the 250 or 251 depending on your retrieve..

Thats Mr. Bags to you

definitly get a 250 the 400 is pretty big for this type of fishery. Personally i use A.G. 5600C4's on my rods and they work great. However...ive never heard anything negative about calcutta's, everyone i know that owns one says theyre an awesome reel

im running a trophy xl as well its a great driftfishing rod for any system, even use it out on the salkchuck stinging, dont know quite why maybe its when i get a 25lb spring on with 12lb test, what a fight. all i can say about the rod "it is awesome" have no complaints about it.
