Well, I wonder if all of the Humboldt Squids that showed up in Renfrew have anything to do with our missing salmon, a lot of guys are hooking into two or three of these damn things a day! I brought home 3, going to try the tentacles for hali bait, and the mantles for Calamari.
They sure seem like mean little buggers, I got one to "chomp" my pliers with his beak while in the boat, he had some bite to himself.
Other then the priceless look on my face (Thanks to Dad with his split second timing on the camera), they livened up a someonwhat slower derby weekend.
Anyway, in the event anyone wants to target these things, start in 100 feet of water and troll out slowly with salmon gear (They seem to like spoons), and when you get a dead weight that bounces from time to time, slowly bring it in. Net it and get it in your cooler, if you gaff it, you'll get inked.. Couple guys tried 'em, as long as you remove both layers of skin, they said they were quite good.
