like others said, super busy at Fleming boat launch and tons of boats but didnt see a lot going on. We went away from the pack down in front of Esquimalt harbour and picked up one around 10lb and couple shakers before slack tide. During the slack jigged around Brotchie for cod for bit and...
August has been incredible for springs this year and great to to see them off the waterfront again, just like years ago when there were net pens in Esquimalt. Today lost first 3 between 6-7am then it went dead. Got a beauty 79cm 16.5lb off breakwater around 10am then second 11lb about 1/2...
Same as Doug, got 3 springs between 6:30 -7:30 on bait, 8, 14 & 15lb. There were several boats hooking up at that time between mccauley and breakwater. Went dead after 8. Tried for pinks and coho further out til noon but nada.
Short work this morning off McCauley and Green buoy. We started 6:30, 2 springs in boat by 7. Both on bait @60'. Switched to coho gear but couldn't find one, just one pink and released another nice spring. Both were females with empty stomachs. 10 days ago off waterfront we got 3 hatchery...
Was planning on going to Sooke today but after reading reports of waterfront producing decided to stay in town. Fished esquimalt to breakwater from 6 to 1. Fishing was sporatic with an hour of nothing then little flurries of bites. Picked up 3 hatchery chinook 10 to 14lb and 5 pinks. Spoons...
trolled waterfront with about 20 boats, nice day but few results, 3 bites kept one just legal size. Didn't see much else caught except the guy whose motor caught fire and we towed him back to dock.
Out off beachy and trap today with tons of boats. Same results as most others with nonstop shakers on bait. Finally found 2 keepers 7lb red and 11lb white springs when switched to spoons. Seemed the only way to catch a keeper was by putting the line down and getting hit right away otherwise...
Good for us today off beachy head. 7-10 only couple wild coho then at 10:15 while watching guys beside us trying to net fish double header for us right at the head. Kept 75cm 14.5lb and sent back other 85cm around 20lb. Hour later 15.5 lb off head. 70' on bait. Add couple cods and done before noon.
Fished waterfront 7 - 12 this morning. Pretty bumpy but good action. Went thru pack and half bait. Picked up a spring around 12lb off green buoy and smaller one off Macauley. 1/ 2 dozen shakers, one wild coho and hits that didn't stick. Saw other fish netted so good chance to get something out...
Fished beachy hd and bay area 7-1. Got one hatch right away but action was sporadic and died off after 11am. Had 7 coho to boat, kept 2 hatch
Definitely slowed down from reports earlier in week.
Out today trolling from esquimalt to Albert head then back along waterfront. 3 undersize lings not a sniff of salmon. Did see a boat at Fleming cleaning 4 fish though.
Carbon Fiber is durable for the rod grip and for sliding out of the rod holder but is slippery when wet in the rain or wet hands. Don't ask how I found this out.
