Boats on Used Victoria and Other Areas

If the Stryker boat is from China - no thanks!! Way better off paying more and buying something made in North America that has better quality, materials, warranty, after sales service and re-sale value.

    2003 2425 Kingfisher paint

I've had my Silver Streak for 20 years. Never had it painted - never will as it is super low maintenance. One option is to sandblast it bare, polish it and leave it unpainted. May not look as pretty but will save you time, $ and labor down the road. There is a reason most commercial aluminum...

Is there a rod/reel you can jig for salmon and lingcod? + overall reel/rod questions.

Not necessarily. You can pay a lot of money for a high modulus graphite rod and it can snap very easy. What the rod is made off and how well it is made is what matters more. Glass/glass mix, or carbon fiber mix rods can be more durable but can be a bit heavier then more fragile pure graphite...

    Fisheries Management and Ecology

These references are 34 and 24 years old! Lots of new and much improved hatchery science and methods that can help reduce many of the traditional negative impacts of hatcheries. Unfortunately the cheap, myopic, dinosaurs at DFO are slow to adapt many of these improved techniques. We need to get...

Is Area 18 currently open for Chinooks?

I stand corrected - thanks for the clarification.

Is Area 18 currently open for Chinooks?

In my understanding the final word is the fisheries notice as this is backed up by DFO regulations, legislation, policy and guidelines. If there is any discrepancy between the app, the fisheries officer or the fisheries notice the notice takes precedence.

The paper license works fine for me - simple, straightforward and always works.

    Yamaha 150 or Mercury 150

and some say that Yamaha's are cheaper to maintain overall, quieter and more fuel efficient than Mercury. So really unless there is a credible, reliable unbiased thorough testing it is just one person's experience against another - i.e. Fords are better than Chevy's. etc...

    Chinook Management Measures - Areas 11 to 20, 111, and Subareas 29-1 to 29-5 - Effective April 1, 2024

All the more reason for the public fishery to get more political and to make this a Fed election issue.

    Yamaha 150 or Mercury 150

Good luck on finding an unbiased report. The most I have ever found is cautious ones that say they are both good overall and have just slight differences in pros & cons. Consumer Reports is a unique, unbiased outfit but they don't test outboards. I agree with others on here, go with the...

Cowichan Lake weir project called saviour for stressed river

    Chinook Management Measures - Areas 11 to 20, 111, and Subareas 29-1 to 29-5 - Effective April 1, 2024

Why the DFO is refusing this for 2024 is yet another example of foot dragging, politically influenced mismanagement. There is little reason for this other then to appease the sectors that do not like the public fishery as there are plenty of marked fish to catch that will have little impact on...

    Scotty rigger locking systems

They work well and I like them better then the new padlock holder system they have now. Just keep them well lubed and put the 2 sets of keys in a safe place. The new padlock system IMO is not as good as it is only as good as the padlock you use and the effectiveness of the bolt cutters the...
