Protac neoprene waders. Used 3 seasons. No tears or current leaks (had a puncture from a hook on back of thigh that was repaired).
Size I think was medium (I'm 5'8", 180 but it is a little long in the leg, probably fits to 5'11")
Please make an offer and thanks for looking. Photos on Used...
Was up at Somas Park on Monday with about a 1/2 dozen people. The whole day we saw three fish move through. One chinook in the teens was caught ... that was about it.
I have always looked for ways to increase my range and feel. Using a 30lb superline will cast like 8lb mono but be sensitive with little or no stretch. You might want to splice in some flourocarbon as a leader because the superline "may" spook fish.
I can't find them right now but I know...
I use the brining mixture in my bucket when I catch them (non-iodized salt, borax, skim milk powder and bluing). They seem to die really fast in the brined bucket ... and they get a head start on the rest of the prep.
I think I got the recipe form the Salmon U site.
When I take them home I...
Well Poppa, I've caught more than a few in Courtenay that were dime-bright. I don't keep the greenish-black ones.
Tastes are relative. I'm of eastern european hertiage so maybe I'm a minority but I served up Coho and Chum at the same BBQ and the family preferred the Chum.
The difference is...
Went out to Condensory Bridge area after work on Wed. Few fish showing but saw at least three Chum hooked between the lower pool and sidecut areas under the trees.
During the last 1/2hr of light, the fish started to move up from the pool and I caught two fresh males in the fast water at the...
I'm almost afraid to ask how things are on the Puntledge this early since other areas have been having poor returns ... but I'll ask anyway.
Also, has the access to Condensory bridge area been screwed by the condo development?
Cheers,
Alex
Barba,
I use a perfection loop one one end and an albright knot for the tippet end.

I'll try the loop method you mentioned as I've used it for braided fly lines in the past.
Cheers,
Alex
Barba,
I use it as a sinking tip on my 9wt fly line for fishing the flow. I like it becasue its cheap and I can adjust the length of my leader without feeling guilty for cutting it. It rolls OK on my setup but doesn't last. Wind knots (or twisting) can realy screw it up.

I'm heading up for the 18th. I'll report after.
A buddy phoned me yesterday evening that fisheries was closing the Nitinat for retention this weekend. I can't see anything about it on the website:

Can anyone confirm or refute...
Ghost,
Thanks for the response. I think I'll wait for the rains as I have a limited number of fishing days per year (read: "married"); so I'd like to save my time for when there are actual fish in the river.
Good luck to you if you go out there.
Cheers,
Alex
Is it too early to plan a trip for the Aug 25th opening? We haven't had any rain so I wondered if anyone had been up to the lake. Or heard if fish are showing at the hatchery.
If so, should I plan to fish near the hatchery or should I start at Parker Ck and hike downstream?
Cheers,
Alex
Great Topic!
As a child I fished with my Dad at various BC interior lakes, basic willowleaf and worms; caught enough for dinner though. I stopped fishing when I got my driver's licence (racing cars was more of a rush).
About 4yrs ago my wife suggested I start fishing with my son (then...
Max,
A quick Google came up with this:

I've always found that heat and dehydration are the biggest issues but cleaning the fish as soon as possible can make a big difference too.
Ideally, gill and gut within minutes and...
