If you mean area 20-3 or 20-4 I believe that gets closed every year on August 1st > since 2019 or thereabouts. 20-1 at Renfrew has been hammered. Looks like the best coho area is gutted. Coho could be found all the way out from the buoy to the US border (+/- 7-8 miles). Now it looks we'll be...
Maybe it should be called the Cowichan "Pound Table" Process..... It's probably not a good idea for me to attend otherwise I might pound something. There is no mercy as they continue to pound on fishers. If that's the level of care they are writing the regs ..... what does that say about the...
Anyone know why Area's 18-6, 7, 8 & 10 are not open to chinook fishing thru to Dec 31? Was non-retention from Aug 1 to Oct 15. This seems like an inordinate time frame to protect chinook spawners. Runs should be finished by now. Something I'm missing...
The only good thing that could come about is .........if the liberals promise of Ocean and Land protection are tied together and ............the Feds and Province of BC got together on meaningful dual protection. Protecting one without the other will simply not be as effective, especially in...
On another fisheries related flank that may influence fed/dfo thinking here's what Wash state is looking at for SRKW protection. Some insight into where K&L and J pods spend their time in winter what they eat. Interesting studies suggest SKW's spend very little time within 1 NM of shore...
Another awesome attempt by man to royally overturn the natural order of things on the planet. However I suppose given enough fu's every once in a while man can accidently cause something good to happen. This time it looks like our insanity may have accidentally created a highly adaptive...
Not sure if everybody knows the PRM Coho derby has been changed from October 5-6 to Sept 28-29. Here's how PRM website reads.....
Port Renfrew Fishing Derbies
Kinsmen Salmon Derby - July 27th &28th 2019
Port Renfrew Marina Derby on Labour Day weekend - August 31st & Sept. 1st 2019

Headed down the toilet. That's where the feds/dfo are flushing rec/com fishers...
As of April 30th Chinook doesn't appear listed in species regulations for Nitinat areas 21 & 22. I haven't fished this area. I don't recall this area being completely closed to chinook fishing all year or is this new for 2019? Anyone?
Areas 21 and 22 (Tzuquanah Point, Nitinat Lake)

Good news for them. Quite the turnaround from 10 years ago. Be interesting to find out what happened and how they are managing fishery today. https://www.mercurynews.com/2009/04/06/california-salmon-fishing-season-likely-shut-down-for-second-straight-year/
Thanks for the insight. I've got that feeling that the US/CA will interact more on helping fish stocks/SRKW's and drift more and more toward similar regulations and seasons at least along border areas. That's what fish regulatory bodies do, type rules on computors and draw maps. They're...
That sucks a lot. It must sound like we're a bunch of spoiled whiners up here. In general, what do rec fishermen there think about their fishery and management? There's that report of 1.5 billion going into helping fish & SRKW's.
I stand corrected then. It would be good to know how extensive WA closures are compared to BC. Guess WA skins are thicker than mine. We should all watch the 2 hour doc on Luna the KW at Nootka Sound. She survived for at least 2 years on her own without any pod, found whatever local food...
