Downrigger Issues

hi Guys last night one of my downriggers was giving me problems. The symptoms are it pulls fine for about 20ft then it stops and clicks around a bit. I then have to turn it off and wait 1minute or so then back on and it pulls another 10 to 20 ft repeat until ball is up. I thought it might be a bad plug or loose connection in the boat but I replaced the plug and checked all the wiring.

Sounds like the internal circuit breaker is tripping however best to call Scotty and let the experts guide you to resolve the problem.

I had the same issue years ago, simple fix after figuring out. The fuse had slight corrosion (glass tube). Worked fine after cleaning, but i switched over to the blade style fuse. Hope that may be issue.

sounds like the motor is drawing too hard, corrosion. as previously posted check fuse and all connections for the fuzzy green death.

internally there is a relay beside the motor which can corrode over time ....
ditch the 25 amp fuse and go 30 amp...
always keep contacts clean and keep the earths good ....
if you have a second batt tie into that, not your starting batt.
my tips
but if you not hands on Scotty provide the best after sales service out there.
