New Scotty Sure Stops

Interesting to hear the comments about leaving the ball in the water.
My feeling is that any gear left hanging in the water provides more chance of a fish tangling in it.
I tie my shut off stops so the ball is out of the water.
I also like my Cannon ball to clear the water when the stop kicks in...if I need any fine adjustment I just tweak the boom in or out

I'm new at this. I asked for sure stops and they sold me some #374's. They just have black cord. I have snubbers too so will what I have be ok ?
Pretty sure those are the original stops .. they work fine but can wear over time .. the new ones are blue tuna cord like in the pictures on page one of the thread .

one of my my favorite setups was years ago on a mark pendlington show ( sportfishing bc ) where the downrigger clip was integrated with the stopper. so when you retrieve the line, the downrigger clip line was sucked up into the pulley ( partially) so you didn’t have to reach waaay over to grab the clip. as well as the cannon was out of the water. i’ve never found footage of this but it was slick.

This is how mine are set up. Ball just sits in water and clip beside it when the are fully up

I've actually modified it since those pictures. I no longer bother with the top swivel where it meets the braid and the Scotty ball hook. The braid just ties to the tuna cord and the loop end slides over ball/snubber. Just less hardware to buy or lose, depending on how you look at it.

looks good. i made a few up today with swivels but i see how it will work without the hardware
thanks again

I've made my own for years out of tuna cord and green ganion for years. There was never something on the market that worked right for me.
This morning I installed 60 inch Scotty sure stops on my riggers and I'll never go back to making my own. They stop perfect in the water and then you can push the button and run them right up tight to the pulley and the ball is clear of the water. Good quality and well made product.
