Friend seen a crab trap with yellow nylon rope and the float was just under the water and being pulled along in the current just SW of the Bell Buoy early this am. In his text, he said looked like the the trap has been in the water for weeks, if not longer as the float was gunked up a lot . Cases like this where the traps are a hazard to navigation and boaters, are you allowed to pull the traps and notify the owner and or DFO if there is a name is on the float?

BTW, he reported that he only had a couple of undersized Chinook for his efforts today.

Yes on all accounts.

Was out Sunday and Monday. Sunday on the Gulf Island side and Monday on the Vancouver side. Bit slow for salmon but managed two keepers. One at Porlier and one at Grande and two undersized at Tunstall. All on bait at 100 ft. Limit of Prawns, Red Rock Crab and Dungies as well. Had a great feast on the boat and back at home. Beautiful weather and flat calm water.

Awesome!!

Tried to battle the wind/waves to get out to drop the traps this morning but ended up turning around back to Vanier. Saw a few boats rocking pretty hard out by the bell.

What a awesome start to finish post, great work on the catch of the day.....

Had a few hours so fished the low slack Saturday afternoon out in the sun. Got ourselves one from Grace on a hoochie, full of small herring in its belly and seen one pulled from HITW, couldn't beat the weather!

We tried tunstil and then last part of the day from the QA to the Bell had 3 just unders a couple shakers fishing close to bottom ,I did get on of the shakers well clipping my line on the rigger using Skinny Gs , did well with crab and prawns though . One of the prawn sets was a little disturbing some butt hat lined is 3 big buoys over top of mine and probably 25 feet away from my buoy and no names on the buoys either I was a little tempted to wright something in them for them .

Good haul of prawns and crab today. Finally feel like I got the right crab traps - cheapo traps are apparently far superior to expensive.....

Just a heads up about stolen traps. I am writing this now because it has happened for the 2nd time in the last 2 weeks.

A guy I know is out fishing...he is at the Bell Buoy todayand trolled past some crab traps. He looks at the float and realized....gee...that looks like my float...the one that was STOLEN 8 weeks ago. He pulls the trap....it is his float with his line and it is clear that the trap has been fishing only recently. There is no growth on the line. It is about 3 miles from where he last saw it. Hmmmm... WTF....the thieves are fishing the stolen gear!!!

Example Number 2: About 2 weeks ago a local guide I know is running back from fishing and runs close by Passage Island and sees a Scotsman with big letters on it with a name of another local guide. It is right bang smack in the middle of the sponge reef closure....WTF....something is wrong here. I pass on the information to the guide whose name is on the float.....they are on vacation out of the country and all their gear has since been accounted for on the dock. Guide buddies run out the next day looking to retrieve the trap....Trap is GONE. I spoke to the guide yesterday and he figures either 1) it is a float from some stolen gear from years ago...or someone else has the same name as him. Unlikely....the odds of that are long indeed.
