Pinniped Predation - Houston we have a problem

Its pretty obvious that things are way out of whack, And need to be brought back in balance. We have meddled in every part of nature and there is no going back.

slaughter of a native species... wordsmith.. a cull of non native sea lions is a start.

Really? California Sea lions natural habitat ranges from southeast Alaska to central Mexico, including the Gulf of California. Stellar Sea lions are also native to BC. An animal isn't classified as non native if human activity eradicates it and then it recolonizes the area. Its still the natural range. The "lets kill anything that might eat a salmon" attitude is why NGO"s and environmental groups will always get the best of sport fishing (or hunting) groups because to most people reading a thread like this, we look like knuckle dragging rednecks out for ourselves and nothing else. No concern for the environment or acknowledgement of human beings central role in messing it up.

Whales are cuter than seals.

Once the impact that the seals are having on the Orcas becomes baked in to the general populace, the bleeding hearts will agree to a cull. Or maybe not agree, but look the other way and not be as 'outraged' or 'offended'. It will last a news cycle, and they move on to lynch someone who didn't use the right gender pronoun.
Why not open up a season on them for First Nations people! Win Win!

we all know we the humans screwed up natures balance, thank you capt obvious, lol,, . a cul would put it back, our responsibility. i dont remember many california sea lions and seals overpopulating our near shores and riverbasins/ estuaries growing up here since the 70's... now it is way out of whack with no predation by us humans..

shoot em, grind em up and feed em to land based aquaculture.

Or perhaps there is a very good commercial fishery that could create an economic opportunity to be offered to FN as part of the Reconciliation effort?

Maybe the Sea Shepherd Society should start a campaign to help FN out in developing a market for seal pelts...

Interested enough I believe this was looked at in Courtenay with an earlier cull program but the seals had too many toxins in them to be fit for human consumption. I think they were PCP rich.

Seems to me, it could be a great protein source for the pet food industry.
Just tell the indigenous they aren't allowed to 'harvest' them...
Are they radioactive yet?
