Places to stay!! Broughtons

I'm an experienced Nootka sound fisherman wanting to experience the Broughtons and blackfish sound this year. Try something different. I have zero experience there. Where do people stay? I'm looking for something similar where I get dock space and stay on my boat. It is 30 feet with all the comforts of home.
I would love to get some suggestions of where and what to do!!!

Thanks
Dave

The main docks would be:

Lots of places to set the hook but that is not what you asked for. Waggoner Cruising Guide is an excellent reference to have close when you are cruising the coast. We use it all the time.

Lots of great anchorages for a 30’ boat in places like Forward Harbour by Swanson Island, Mitchell Bay on Malcolm Island or Double Bay on Hanson Island. Not many docks in close proximity so I would suggest the anchor option for most nights. Most fishing in Blackfish Sound or up on north side of Malcolm Island. You may even venture over to Echo Bay to visit Billy Proctor or Alexandria Morton. If u like to wander a bit you can overnight in Sointula or Alert Bay easy enough. Pretty area.

This is exactly what I need to know. It was already mandatory to visit BillyProctor. Not many more opportunities for that. I am going to anchor. My biggest problem is going to be finding and then storing fish up there. Just a cooler and ice? That’s where Critter Cove was great having the walk in storage cooler.

Fishing hot spots would be great to know. If it’s like Nootka you see lots of other boats. I’m hoping there will be company up there.

Thanks for any input. Much appreciated.

Most people will fish Malcolm Island in that area - can be incredible salmon fishing, especially end of July area. Watch for the Sund Lodge boats in general (odd shaped, hard to miss!) if you need to, but the main spots - Lizard Point, the slide (1/3 to Lizard from Donegal Head - obvious slide on shoreline), Donegal, Black Bluffs (my favorite) and obviously Bere/Malcolm heading west. You can catch halibut trolling the bottom around the slide. There are often big salmon caught right in Mitchell Bay as well on the west side of it, then also infront of the kelp beds on the east side towards Donegal (lodge boats often sniff that out first light or on their way home). Other than that, Flower Island off Swanson also good as well as Baronet Passage (although haven't fished it but assume around Cracroft). You can also find halibut chicken ranch on georges banks if you anchor up (straight north from black bluffs) and I even caught my first hali ever right in the middle of Cormorant Channel where the ledge comes up.

You wont have any problem finding boats...can be pretty busy, especially if US exchange is good as it is popular with the Americans.

Fantastic info. Glad
You mentioned halibut. Haven’t heard much about them up there. I guess I should bring my gear. My girls would love that. Thanks.

Ability to fish halibut up there is highly dependant upon current. While there are some pretty good spots, you pretty much have to fish them around slack currents when the tide swings are low to have any chance of getting your tackle to hold bottom. Mitchell Bay and Stubbs Island (outside of the RCA) are good spots, although Stubbs can be a tackle grave if you're not careful.
