Massive Blue Marlin Caught

Quite often those fish fight so hard they have a heart attack and die

Unfortunately, Kitaoka brought in the fish with the help of an electric reel, which would exempt it from going down as a world record had the fish outweighed the previous record-holders.

Mr. Hemingway would not have approved!!! LOL!

This sums it up nicely!...

I was in kona and did some fishing in. March. Asked the captain who has caught two granders before what happens to those fish.

No word of a lie his response was "cat food".

It's sad to see an animal like that get killed. Be it accidental or intentional.

I, personally, would never keep a fish like that. What's the point? They're not good to eat and it's not good to take those genes out of the pool. I feel the same way for people posing with huge catches of ANY species. Halibut, lingcod, salmon, etc.....it really breaks my heart seeing the genetically superior animals getting killed off for a trophy on a mantle.

Anyway, I'm off my soap box.

That dock has seen a lot of blood over the years. The place is quite cool actually. The people there are quite friendly and work very hard in what they do and suffered extremely in 2008 to present. It's a great fishing location and very well managed so those fish come and go, maybe not that exact size but in my experience there's lots around as its their bread and butter. Good to clobber a monster once in awhile makes you remember your still on top.
