Horrible Horgan

The wild card now is if they institute 'electoral reform" and get rid of first past the post in favour of proportional representation. That could change the BC cycle and could plunge BC into perpetual coalition governments like the most dysfunctional European parliaments where extreme left or right parties (usually left) have over-proportional power (like the greens have now) in perpetuity. If the current election format is kept, the cycle should continue and we can expect a return to a center/right coalition next election, providing it stays together through the leader selection process.
I would like to research these "dysfunctional European parliaments" if you can give us a couple of examples.

There is a cycle in BC that takes place. The natural political preference is a moderate center/right coalition, (wether you call it Socred, Liberal or Conservative) and this coalition usually stays in power for 3-5 election cycles before the inevitable progression of corruption becomes too entrenched and blatant. They then need to be kicked out to refresh and reset with a new leader and some new blood in the coalition. The NDP then slides in, people having forgotten how bad they were the last time they were in (usually 15 or more years previously) and believe the message that the socialist philosophy of the last NDP regime has been replaced by a new less socialist philosophy (which is never true) . They mess up the business environment, increase taxes and run up debt. This election was past due for the coalition ouster, as corruption had reached high levels, but the NDP still only finished second buoyed by winning a few seats via the irresponsible bribe of removing tolls on the new Port Mann replacement and then were made kings by Weaver. Damn Cali, not often we agree, but holy sh*t you nailed it here. Definitely a "Mic drop...Boom" moment.

We also have new rules when it comes to campaign donations - the Liberals won't have 10 times the $$$ compared to the other political parties running, for the first time in history.

Well Horgan and the NDP lied. Now the taxpayer will pay for getting any of these clowns into office.

Is the love affiar over?

John Horgan aims to settle tensions with BC Greens over LNG concerns

"Mr. Weaver, whose Green caucus holds the balance of power in the B.C. legislature, says he and his fellow Green MLAs are prepared to bring down the NDP government if the New Democrats breathe a positive word about developing a liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in the Speech from the Throne three weeks from now."

Is the love affiar over?

Weaver will NEVER follow through on this threat.
It is simply another LIE, aimed at placating his supporters as he and Horgan continue to work towards LNG projects success in BC.

Weaver will never ever jeopardize where he currently sits until he can ram through proportional representation - for he is fully aware that insidious change is the only way he will hold, and possibly gain any seats down the road.

Wonder what species Horgan is considering shutting the management and hunting down to placate his lap dawg THIS time around...

are you calling the Ferrous leader of the Island a Lier?

""I didn't get into politics to change the voting system," he said. "I got into politics because I saw innovative, leading climate policies being dismantled and I believed the BC NDP were serious about climate action."

Exactly. Weaver showed his true colours when he didn’t step up and stop site C and that colours not green. A little closer to yellow if you know what I mean. If I’d voted for weaver and the greens you can be sure I’d be letting my MLA know how truly shady this “green” coalition is.

Lots of crashes and all about winning.

Weaver opposes LNG and Chinese colonization of this province (would freeze foreign ownership of BC real estate as per New Zealand, Australia and Thailand recent announcements). That shows guts that no other BC party has and I will go for that right now. We are losing, ever increasingly ownership of our land base and therefore subject to Chinese influence of domestic policy. "China Wants Total Access To Canada, May Seek To Import Its Own Workers" http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2017/03/25/caanda-china-trade_n_15584542.html

Well if he is serious he can bring the government down in February with a Non Confidence motion (sure the Liberals will join in) if the NDP refuse to see things his way. I suspect though that like site C he can live with LNG and foreign ownership as long as his Proportional Representation Bill is passed. I don't know how much "guts" it takes to make a statement but refuse to back it up?Right now Weaver is having his cake and eating it to, essentially playing both ends against the middle. It's all about power.

Feb 2018 budget speech approaches and we will see what "all about power" looks like Ziggy. Recently the AG David Eby intimated that there will be a big regulatory exercise of power to reign in Dodge City corruption of the Clark liberals disgrace: “…(W)e don’t even know who the actual owners are of almost half of Vancouver’s most expensive properties because of a lack of transparency in our land registry about beneficial ownership,” Eby said. “Offshore and domestic trusts, numbered companies and stand-in owners like students and housewives obscure the source of funds in our real estate market.” The same article went on to discuss flagrant money laundering in Vancouver casinos ... literally bags of cash trading hands in Casino parking lots. Cash winnings from laundered money turned over for legitimate casino cheques and then to BC assets eg real estate.

Current situation screams loud to me that their election platforms and what people casted their vote for were and are all BS, lies and only stated to get a vote. They will continue to lie, cheat and not follow what was promised because if they do not they will not be in power and we will be going back to an election. They will continue to as they are or be out of a job.

As a follow up to what has been stated here; I have emailed 2 provincial political parties in 30 years, Liberals for reinstating the grizzly hunt, (did receive a written response) and the current NDP/Green coalition for managing BC"s wildlife by emotions, received the electronic automatic BS email.

Just what I see.

I would like to research these "dysfunctional European parliaments" if you can give us a couple of examples.

Italian senate - current majority "Common Good" coalition includes 6 parties (Democratic party and 5 other fringe left parties) then Center right is next with 3 parties, then there are still another 4 or 5 parties not in formal coalitions, all of which can break up any time. Greece is also a complete cluster, Germany is even having its issues recently getting a coalition set up as Merkel didn't win enough seats, and will be chancellor with 32% of the vote . All examples of fringe parties (mostly left) having undue influence as they are needed for coalitions. Israel, although not in Europe, has the opposite situation in recent elections with right fringe parties exerting high influence in right coalitions with Likud, who govern with only 23% of the vote.

Damn Cali, not often we agree, but holy sh*t you nailed it here. Definitely a "Mic drop...Boom" moment.

You and I agreeing, I guess miracles do happen :)

Have a look at Austria!

As far as "fast ferries" go:- We got fast ferries back in the NDP days because we the people wanted faster ferries and were always griping about how to get across to Vancouver faster.

Since the NDP of old we've talked endlessly about building a bridge or bridges and many a "fast" ferry ( but only 'passenger' and privatized), has come and gone when the Libs were in power.)

True, with the old NDP fast ferries we found out that big waves cause problems and yes, the engines were undersized.

But if anybody came up with a fast car ferry that worked, we would all accept it right now. We will never stop looking for a way to get to Vancouver faster.

The other half of the 'fiasco' was when Gordon Campbell simply threw away our tax dollars by giving the fast ferries away to a buddy of his (Dan Washington).

The Libs hired a wage-gobbling CEO to overhaul the ferry system, spending untold millions.

Quite frankly, for all the insane millions the Libs spent, I don't see any major improvement in our ferry system. Same old delays, same old breakdowns, route cancellations and a couple of new ferries that weren't built here because B.C. shipyards don't have the skills so I'm told. Also jacked up ferry ticket prices continually.
