anyone know the price of boat fuel in Bamfield ? , also has the after aug 1st chinook limit actually been set @ one over and one under per day in area # 23 or are we still waiting for this to be done ? anyone ? curious is all .

Just got back from a 4 day trip to Poett Nook. Fishing was really slow for us, only one salmon . Fished South bank, 7 mile, Cree, Whittlestone, and Vernon Bay. No bait anywhere or Salmon. Focused our efforts on bottom fish, Cree was good for cod. Prawning also not so good as the commercial guys are in there.

Fish on the inside definitely come in waves this time of year. Based on Columbia forecasts, waves of fish should keep building as we head into June. At least I hope so, headed to Ukee for the first trip of the season June 15th!!

Area B Seine - First possible fishery in week of June 15th or 22nd depending on escapement levels and catch rates. Will fish to a weekly target or 3 to 4 days of fishing each week, which ever occurs first. Boundaries from Pocahontas to Polly Point ( Will include a closed area “seine free zone”)

May 1 until further notice 4 sockeye per day in Area 23 except for the tidal portions of the Somass River which remain at 2 sockeye per day.

Yes, sockeye are starting to stack up in the inlet in catchable numbers. Its not hot fishing yet, but catchable numbers. Unlike the last 2 seasons the river water is low and warm. The upper layer of water in the canal is warm. That is a slight barrier to migration into the river. This may be a good thing for the recreational fishery in that sockeye will not migrate into the river as quickly as they have done in prior years. When the fish stage in the canal, it makes angling for sockeye more successful. Barring any dramatic changes the run forecast is 700,000 to 1 million +. Should result in good fishing opportunity for sockeye. You can expect to see commercial fisheries starting next week. Gill net goes first (weekly), followed by 3 day openings each week for seine fleet.
Here's update on coho. Please note the regulations are identical to prior years (not 2014 season). The Minister is still reviewing recommendations from SFAB regarding coho regulations based on finding a balance between protecting upper Fraser Coho and creating angling opportunities. That means for now, pending Minister's review, the old regulations are in effect:
RECREATIONAL - Salmon

Back to the pain in the butt boundary that bisects the Ukee Harbour mouth/Beg Island/Food Islets/Chrow Island fishing area - can keep wild coho on half your trolling tack but not the other half. Of course the schools of coho know this and don't follow the schools of bait inshore and offshore of this arbitrary line … Oh well, it is what it is.
