Today my son's grade 1 class and another class from Chemainus Elementary School released 226 coho fry into a side channel on the Chemainus River. It was part of a program the school runs to teach the kids about the salmon cycle. The eggs were hatched in the classroom and observed until the yolk sacs had been absorbed.

It was a lot of fun to watch the kids and parents release the fry. Only one fry died in the release process and all the kids got to watch the one albino fry swim away under a log. A good time was had by all.

Many thanks to Sarah Horncastle, Catherine Turner, and Devina Brookman.
