Morris,
Your question is so vague that all I can suggest is the parent site to this discussion group; for example:

http://www.sportfishingbc.com/tackle_techniques/salmon.htm
What part of Canada are you heading to? You realize that Vancouver Island (a small rock off the Coast of British Columbia) is about the length of England?
Coming from that distance, I would suggest you contact several of the great guides we have out here. They will proove invaluable for deciding where and when to target the species you want. There is no way that you can "learn" the spots and techniques fast enough on a vacation, to make it worth your while, going off on your own.
Hire a guide once you know which area(s) you will be visiting.
Cheers,
Alex
... "high water" is when you can fish from your car.

Morris, check out my web site at

or
Roy Carver's site at
http://www.bluewolfcharters.com/
We can both direct you to some awesome areas to fish even if you don't want to charter on the salt chuck.
