have a 9.9 4 stroke don't know the year, bought used at garage sale, had for 5 years. has a rectangular engine cover. needs a pump, can I just take the old part to a dealer and match up or do I need to know the year?

should be a stamped serial plate somewhere on the transom plate,
take that number to your local Honda dealer and they will be able to
get the correct year and part from their data base.

You could try surfing this link to match the year to the VIN#. I did that to find out my Honda 15 was a 97 not a 98 as I was told. Some of the parts are the same for several years, so you should be able to order the water pump from here if you want.

Take the old part to the dealer or take the motor if your not sure. Fishing season is coming.

Thanks Tubber, did just that and waiting for reply from that forum. Mean while going to yank off bottom end and take impeller out. Gotta get out there.

Just take the imepeller in, they will match it up. Take the plate that it rides on and the housing in too, more often then not they wear out as well.

If you want to do just the impeller, Goodall Rubber on John street is a fraction of the price of a marine place.
