Mounting transducer on kicker

Has anyone had success mounting their transducer on a kicker rather than on the hull of their boat?

I'll appologize for the catty remark, right now....
Why would you mount your sending unit that
a) moves
b) vibrates when in use
c)is out of the water when you're powered on the main
d)where are you running the cable---down the tiller?

Some transducers are designed for mounting on the bottom of electric trolling motors. I have mounted them on several electrics. I found that at various speeds the electric motor interfered with the signal to the transducer. It doesn't really suit mounting on an outboard kicker. The only situation that would make sense is if it was used for a spare fishfinder in a dual setup. That way you could run two fishfinders when trolling, but not have to mount a second transducer on the hull. If used for a single fishfinder installation I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd expect very bad performance if you were backtrolling as the water disturbance would be right in line with your transducer.

I mentioned on another post using a square aluminum tube to mount the transducer to, then run the cables up the inside of the tube with the tube mounted to the boat above the water line. This is a cheap and easy solution to the problem that does not involve holes in your boat below the water line.

Having re-read my reply, I must apologize once again....
This working in plus 40 degree heat in the Alberta desert is doing something to my brain, I'm afraid.
Starting to come around, though, but headed back for more in a couple days....
As for your original question...
Give it a try, and get back to us, would love to see the results when it shakes loose and gets wrapped in the prop.....C*** there I go again...sorry....
