Fishing is great. Some fishing spots are as little as a 2minute run from the marina...

A lot to know about the Port Hardy area. Good info at Salmon University web site. Probably best way to quick sucess is to book one day with a guide and then use the information he gives you to fish in several places. Serengitti Guide puts a lot of fish on the dock as well as big Jim who, with his wife, runs the tackle shop in the mall next to Overweiti grocery store. You will learn a lot and eliminate a lot of wasted time( and money) looking and trying to learn everything on your own. If you have seveal weeks not as big an issue. Just a thought, I have fished there 13 yrs now and am still learning every year.

Trust me when I tell you this...JohnD
If I know a potential client has got a boat in town and you are just looking for a day charter so I'll show you where to go....Duval is the place:D
Most of us up there are still trying our hardest to avoid the sheep:)
Just do like everybody else and burn some fuel and explore the hard way....

I hate to be a sheep, but I saw Serengeti at the dock last year with great catches in the cart. If I had the $$$, I'd go with him for a day.

While on the topic of Port Hardy, can someone tell me what the price of diesel is running at a station? How about the dock price for gasoline? Thanks in advance.

Crap, gas went up yesterday to 1.45 at the pump, diesel will be more, best to phone the Quarterdeck for a price update.
Hey Serengeti, I new you were up cause someone phoned me and gave me **** for making a swell going by the marina to the crab pots:D.Our boat wasn't even running then, hee hee. Must be a marina fink around this year.. And on another note, the RCMP have a Hardy boat and crew this year, and are going to be doing some serious spot checks for fisheries and booze. They have also said there will be a uniformed officer hanging around the cleaning tray at the QD, so much for enjoying a cold one while cleaning the catch:(.

Wow...gas is killer. And that would of been my pops haha...I was just woke up (having a lil siesta on the way back)...get up and told him to slow down...shouldn't be doing that even if there are 0 boats in the marina lol. Yeah..saw the RCMP boat. That's fine as long as it isn't a daily thing and becomes a nuisance. Just finished my LM course and going down island next Thurs. to buy all the "safety" gear they require for TC....if they are going to be checking that as well. When are you starting BigJoe?

And thanks for the kind words ichy. and JohnD. Lots of great guides up our way.

Cheers,
David

Big Joe, can you explain to this flatlander what the heck you mean? Is it unlawful to drink beer in public in BC?

yes it is...If they are on your case, even on your own property and in view of public, you could be charged...Of course that is rare unless you have made a nuisance of yourself.....The boys in blue headed out today, looked like toward castle....one boat today caught 4 in the twenty's at Duvall, the bite is on!!!

Is fishing still strong for large chinooks in August, or is the main run done by then. I'll be in Hardy August 15-28.

Hey SerengetiGuide - good times last year by Bremner Pt. Landed one nice one at 30lb and lost 2 bigger ones (one to your prop - no fault, just a smart fish that knew where to peel the line to lol, and one to the seal waiting for next easy meal). Looking forward to this August - see you on the water.

My mistake John...don't actually remember that to be honest...remember a couple accidents when stuff like that happened. My mistake. Look forward to seeing you once again.

Decent day today...2 Springs in low 30's, plus an 18 plus full bag of halis. Lost 4 Springs as well.

So.... I look at your boat and mine? Is the Pursuit built by Boston Whaler? Sure looks alike? :)

Nice bag of Hali's - I usually stop for those on the way back from Bremner. (The chicken farm). Just curious though I have never gotten anything bigger than mid 20's there. Is Bolivar a good bet when one is hunting for 50lb? Not interested in the monsters really - scary to handle plus they are females but a few 50's would be nice. I usually try around Barry and Echo. I've hooked into 2 big ones i think but never got them to the boat. Did get a 40lb Ling off Barry last year though. Have a mapping GPS but finally was able to get a Navionics map for this year. I'm thinking that will help alot. Cheers!

No..Pursuit is not built by Whaler. Both good boats...I like to think pursuit is a lil more sleek on its finish though lol. Great to fish outta anyway.
