I'm a fiction writer writing about a fisherman. Although the story is not all about fishing, I am coming upon a need to know a few things here or there.

The character is something of a miracle worker (he's a river fisherman from the eastern part of Iowa). I know he is able to catch fish when it's difficult for almost anyone else to get them: For instance, when its hot out and the fish are all down below. Unfortunately, I have no idea what some of the other difficult things are for fishermen to work out in terms of catching a fish. I'd love some input on this.
