There has been a change on the date of the 16th Annual Just for the Halibut Derby so as not to conflict with the Sidney Salmon derby. The 16th Annual Just for the Halibut Derby has been rescheduled for May 12th & 13th.

With all due respect, gotta ask why this derby is always held on Mother's day but more importantly why do you hold the event when the currents are borderline dangerous?! Doesn't seem overly responsible IMO.

really peetz? To actually have to spend a whole day with the person who clothed, cared and fed you for 18 years is really not a lot to ask of a decent son.
The timing of this derby is lousy , the original date was fine.

WOW ok what about the fathers day derby ?? seems everyone who can goes in that one??? whats the diff???

You are more likely to bring the old man and have a day with him. Either way have a merry Christmas all , and buy your mother something nice!

I do have to agree. Lame day choice.... I just looked at the heights not currents but the tides don't seem that bad.
Two weeks either side would work... Id say poor form.
Peetz, pussy whipping comes from wives , not moms.

Don't go where I was today. Only dogs and skates there. Good luck man. Break that scale.

Hey Stalker,
My first fish report on the forum will be a response to your question - I went out in our boat Saturday for halibut, drifting, and not expecting much (which is probably why we didn't register for the derby). My mistake. We drifted for a good 4 hours or so right by Clover Point, the currents and wind were really slow, not much movement, so very lucky. It took a while, but with octopus as bait, we finally had a bite around 11:30 am, and instead of it being a dog fish as we kind of suspected, it was a nice, albeit small, halibut! Just over 20lbs was our guess, about the same as the one we caught earlier this year on the charter. It was the only fish for us that day, but also the first caught on our boat since we bought it late winter, so a great day! We've still got lots to learn, and I know most days we won't be so lucky with the currents, but man was it fun!
Cheers!

There were obvious problems with the program. Yesterday, when I was in the store, they told me that the programmer had been called and he was going to come in a fix it. Their intention was for all of the pictures to be on the web site. The face book page turned out better, but the pics there should be tagged IMHO.
