I thought it would be good to take our minds off the polictical stuff and freshen the air with tackle talk.
I broke a couple of Convergence rods last year and had enough with them so I picked up a couple of Technium's with the new 4000 GT reels (improved models). I went with one 15-30 lb. and one 15-25 lb. on the rods to try them both out. I sitll have two Convergence for now as well for double stacking etc. when needed. I usually only run two rod's but Sockeye is a different story.
I've been looking into some tuna tackle as well for that fishery. Probably will look South for that stuff but who knows........
What have other folks picked up new this year?

That's a quite the shopping spree Labman2!!!
I need to upgrade my halibut reels this year as well. I'm using the Penn GT's right but want to get into something a bit better.
I usually buy tackle every few weeks or so during the spring whenever I have some spare cash around.

I just picked up some crimpless downrigger hooks with fins for my Scotty's. I hope they help keep the spinning cannon balls still. I did just finish installing 9"X18" Bennett trim tabs. I hope to get out this weekend and try them.

OK bought the last 6 months. 1 large spool of 80 lb. Tufline for backing, new gaff, 2x Penn gt330gt2 with 2 Ugly Sticks for halis, hali spear, 1 large spool of 30 lb. test Mustad mono. All from my favorite tackle shop Harbour Chandler - great deal on all thanks guys. A selection of: a couple of hun assorted sized Mustad open eye hooks, Coyote and Gold star spoons, flashers, bait heads, hootchies. Half a dozen new Tomic plugs to add to my large number of 6" and 7" repaints that turned out fantastic - thanks Tomic painter and crew (please pass along again Holmes tnx). Other stuff too numerous to remember. I am considering therapy for my hoarding fishing gear obsession however I am much to busy buying fishing stuff and getting the boat water ready for next month.

I tend to do my "shopping" a bit closer to the season......I usually take advantage of the Berry's Fathers Day Sale to pick up a lot of gear. I am a bit fraudulent being in there as I am not a Dad nor shopping for my Dad......but I sneak in under the radar and spend more money than I should to compensate. :p
I am in the market for a new rod/reel....will either get another Trophy QR4.5 or may make a splash with a new MR3. Got a great deal on a Trophy/Fenwick set up last year at Berrys which served well last summer. I think it's time to retire my Shimano's into a backup/stacking role.
One "new toy" I am really looking forward to having with me on treks this year is the new Canon D60 DSLR I got for Xmas last year; no more Canon 'point and click'. Last year in Kyuquot my buddy was taking awesome picks with his DSLR and I got 'camera envy'....although my smaller Canon took great shots I am looking forward to capturing some of the trips with this new machine.

eriks, hope that prawn trap rig works for you too! I've got the Ace Line Hauler and it's not been my fave toy by any stretch. I used to run 3 traps with 2 buoys on 1 line and the Line Hauler really has a tough time with that set up (included in that was about 15lbs of lead as well). Even with my current 2 trap set up and 15lb of lead (which is the minimum I need to prevent traps from drifting) I find the Ace Line Hauler to struggle quite a bit and I really have to 'help' it out by pulling the line. I realize they aren't meant to be 'heavy duty' pullers but I've recently taken mine back and Nikka agreed to send it back to Ace to put on the new 40% better motor to see how that works. It's not supposed to be a more powerful motor from what I'm told but simply 40% faster so I'd imagine I still won't be totally please with how it works. I've looked at alternatives and may switch to something else if this new motor still doesn't suffice.

Thx For the advice on the trap pulled Tincan. I searched the forums for trap pullers, and everyone seems to have a different opinion on which ones work or not. Seems like the guys who build their own ones love them! I'll keep searching for info on what seems to be the best one to buy over the counter. Let me know how your repaired one works out, guess I'll be hand hauling for a while yet!
bought another inflatable life vest at the van boat show great price, 2 on boat and to reg ones, dont need no more gear too much already

Ive been a good boy up until 2 weeks ago. Then I found a 10ft, 6wt, 4 piece TFO that I had to have and a 7wt, 4 piece Echo Switch rod that started to call my name. Needless to say there are some other goodies that work with these two rods that I will no doubt have to have.

Make that 5...stopped by PNT in parksville....and he manage to talk me into one....I am going to be fishing almost primarily around the central inside coast and plugs don't seem to be used all that much. If you know of any that work well as far as plugs go for the inside let me know, just let me know when to use em....I have the 602 6" classic, a 232 6" tubby, a custom 5" red with plaid reflective interior. Any other suggestions would be great.

2 new MR3's were my big purchase for the year. Great retrieve but I hate how they slowly 'slip' while in the rodholders unlike their MR2 brothers. I've noticed it on all MR3's I've seen and it seems like you really have to crank the drag tight for it not to do so. Also got 2 Shimano TLD20 reels and some stumpy hali rods as I'll be exploring the southern gulf islands (mostly in the straight of georgia) for hali's. Fished around these parts for 30 years but I've heard rumours that recently there may be some around. Should be fun to explore/kill time.

new to me grady white seafarer and in 2 weeks I am getting a pair of the new scotty high performance downriggers
8 weight sage fly rod with a ross CLA reel. Havent caught a fish with it yet, but it sure looks pretty and casts like a dream.
Thinking about setting up to run a third and possibly a 4th rod this year, so probably gonna buy another shimano convergence rod and outfit it with another M1 moocher.
The big purchase may come in the fall. My fishing partner wants a bigger boat, were looking at picking up a 22 foot c dory.
Good luck this year guys!

This will be our fourth season with our boat.
Spent lots o' cash the last couple of years outfitting it so was glad to not have to put out too much this year.
Did put braid on our riggers, hope that works out good.
Biggest expense was our new place, second driveway for the boat and truck, excellent!

"prepare for the worst but expect the best".Yeah I am pretty happy to have it on board. I thought about what would happen if I was 25-30 miles offshore and all alone, and I ran into serious trouble. My conclusion was I would probably die and I've decided that I plan on doing that in 40 years or so. All in it was just shy of 3 g's. Its 3 grand I hope I never use.
