Its time to go 4 stroke for my kicker . im thinking electric start , tiller with charge system

my boat is a 17.5 olyimpic

the 1979 6hp johnson seems to push it fine

do you think a 9.9 will be to much

any other advice would be great

Watch your weight? You are going from somewhere around 50/lbs up to a 9.9 which will weigh aver 90/lbs? Almost twice as much hanging off the backend, you and your boat, okay there?

Sounds like you really don't need the hp? And, if I didn't need it, I wouldn't put on the extra weight.

Nice to have the larger motor to get home on if the main engine has problems, plus maybe a better charger for your batteries? Your 17 1/2 boat should be able to handle the weight. Is it a big difference in money between motors? Tight Lines,.........BB

The 8hp Yami will do a great job, even power tilt if you want it. Same block as the 9.9.
