Every other area has a thread so I thought I'd start one for my area.
Out yesterday, 0 salmon, 0 prawns, 0 crabs, 1 undersize ling.
It must be global warming doing me in!:)

Cool. My area too. Out Sunday.

Fished Sansum Narrows a couple of hours Bold Bluff pretty hard in the flood change, but nothing going on.

Limit on crabs. O salmon, one ling at Burial.

Saw a few boats fishing Separation on way back in late AM.

Talked to a guy the other day at the launch ramp with a 14 or 16 foot yellow aluminium who had jigged up a decent fish from the middle of the narrows, but didn't divulge what he was using. Lure of some type.
Trolling may not be the only answer.?.

Also curious about the pot markers outside Genoa Bay - in about 180 feet of water. Any ideas? Seem too deep for crab, but I dropped a prawn trap in the area with no success.

I know guys who fish crabs right there in that depth. Claim they do good. Too deep for me.and unnecessary

180 feet off Genoa is where I used to crab, and do quite well prawning too when I lived in that neck of the woods. Not as many rock or undersized crabs out there, but go west from the breakwater a little halfway between the breakwater and the house on the water in around 50 or 60 feet, was good there too.

Been too tied up to fish lately, but by my fishing log from last year, it's time to hit the water.
How did you make out?

Fished it on the high tide from 6:30-800, and gave up nothing. Saw lots on sounder from 120-140ft.

Hit my limit on crabs. Huge Dungeness. Tried for some lings, but all were undersized.

This thread has lagged the more popular areas so I'll update it.
Out today in the Narrows, Burial Island, Bold Bluff.
No fish, nada, zilch. One funny strike that I assume was a dogfish accidentally biting a cop car.
One new cannonball and assorted end tackle and an as yet undetermined length of cable sacrificed to the fish gods at Bold Bluff in the hope that they will be appeased and send some fish through in the last open week we have.
If that fails I'll remove myself to Pedder Bay and be amazed at how few fish there are around there.

Good on trying. I know there are in there.

There is a funny shelf right across just before you hit Bold Bluff. I hit that reef a while ago around there with a caonon ball. I got it back though. It seriously comes from 200 ft to 70 ft in seconds in this pocket.

Sucks you lost your cannonball. I have no success either around there lately. I usually fish in Sooke right now, but if its is blowing I try to fish out there. But crabbing, and bottomfishing for lings is sometimes good.

I know from conversations I have with owners of buckys/locals around cow marina some guys do get them in this area. But usully hit and miss. You usally see the die-hards fishing seperation on the tide changes.

You know I hate to bring back memories, but when I came to the island 30 years ago these areas were the place to be for salmon.

Bring back the old tubby Brentwood Bay/Gilberts marine rentals, and getting up at 4am to bug your dad to go out ( not to mention the 25 minute trip in boat to the cement plant). I wonder how many people on this forum did that when thy were kids? It was a blast, and got me hooked on fishing. Getting off topic. We should start another post on that...

Time, did you go and lose that new cannonball I JUST sold you? That is a nasty reef just to the west of where that dock juts out. I've hung up there once, but managed to get my gear back. There's another nasty reef on the south side of that little bay, by the dock with the white pilings, but it usually holds fish.

Sorry to tell you this, but you'll be a day late.
Midnight tomorrow (Friday) Cowichan Bay and the area immediately in front of it in the Narrows closes to all finfishing (salmon, lings, coho etc.)
Everything outside of the closed area is Chinnok non-retention, including Saanich Inlet (Brentwood, Mill Bay, Cherry Point).
Maps are here: http://www.pac.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/fm-gp/rec/opportunities-possibilites/PN/A18-19-20-co-ch-2009.pdf

For Springs you will have to stick to the other side of the Saanich Peninsula.

The good news is there will be an opening for a pinks beach fishery along the south shore of Cow Bay, but haven't heard of any being seen yet.

Good Luck
