At the very head of Douglas Channel is Kitimat, where hatchery fish have been returning in strong numbers and ample size for several years. The Kitimat hatchery has been producing Chinook and Coho Salmon, with the former returning in weights over 30 pounds.

Northbound early season runs of salmon and southbound mid-season runs combine to produce a consistent season of fishing action. Add to that some of the largest halibut to be found on the British Columbia coastline and the area soon justifies its growing reputation.

These well-protected waters amid islands and coastal mountain landscapes provide frequent sightings of orcas, porpoises, bald eagles, sea otters and occasional encounters with the rare Kitimat bear.

Lodges are few here, but Kitimat has several charter operators standing by to provide day or overnight trips throughout this spectacular area.
