Maximum trolling depth with Scotty 1106

I run 400 feet of blue Scotty braid. I've fished springs at over 300' off shore. With the current only tack one direction then run back. 1106's with 15 pound balls. Don't turn.

that is sage advice, my group talks about and uses "directional fishing" often.

Fishing my 1106's deep (with 12's and 15's) I warped the crap out of my spools very quickly, and they became painful to use even shallow and light. I upgraded to aluminum spools, which a fella down here (south Puget Sound) fab's, and that problem got solved. Although spendy. I don't mind my 1106's being a little slow, I can't reel that fast anyways.

If one is serious about doing it this way, probably best to invest in some 2106's and those machined solid aluminum downrigger spools.

i’ve also trolled 300’ with my 1106using braid and 15’s my wife trolled up a hali doing this and she is on a quest to do it again. i shake my head at her and tell her “ if you get one you’re also gonna have to reel all that in.”

she gives me the look and then i stop talking.

This is saying there’s two different models of 1106. One fishes slightly deeper than the other.
